Wind Becomes Key Factor In Leeds Student Accommodation Development

Leeds is known for its chilly winds and generally windy behavior, as is most of United Kingdom. Thus, when the building of two new city center tower blocks reached its final phase, developers were faced with the issue of winds making it uncomfortable for people. The area being used was once part of Leeds Metropolitan University, and is now being used to make city center tower blocks which will have 465 student flats.

A report is being written to be presented to the Leeds City Council, on the issue of the winds that could cause it uncomfortable and at times impossible for people to sit or stand. New techniques of mitigation need to be installed so that cross winds and winds do not disturb the people living there or passing by there. The report will include the fact that although canopies have been introduced and they are a big factor in mitigating the winds they are still inadequate.

Leeds Metropolitan University has also voiced it's concern regarding the issue of the design and stated that “the proposed buildings are far too close to the Portland and Cleverly buildings”. Due to the university being in the vicinity of these new buildings, the institute wants to know whether the winds will affect the surrounding areas too. In addition to that, the University is concerned that the area might become too crowded and noisy during the construction phase which is unacceptable to some students and classes.

Among the supporters of the construction project, the University of Leeds has not expressed any concern or objection regarding the development of this project. The University of Leeds already has a lease on the first and second phase of this property development. Leeds Civic Trust is also a supporter of the project and they like this project because it will give more accommodation room for the heavy influx of students every year in Leeds. They said that this construction and development will “help to continue the gradual restoration of accommodation for families in the Headingley area”.
Projects like these do cause a few troubles in design here or there, but overall it is very important to have more student accommodation in Leeds. Every year there is an increasing influx of students to Leeds, and they are finding that accommodation has become expensive and difficult to find. Most students want to live closer to their universities so they can save on the costs of travel.

Finding Suitable Student Accommodation is not Difficult

Thousands of students move to the United Kingdom each year in pursuit of quality education. These students are rarely disappointed because the United Kingdom is keen on providing international students with all facilities of accommodation etc and takes pride in its educational institutes. However, if you are coming from abroad to UK for the first time, and do not know anyone there, you may feel intimidated and scared of what to expect. The best advice on becoming more comfortable with your environment is to be in touch with your university and college. They are very helpful and will stay in contact with you over email or phone and make you familiar with the regulations and rules of the city. You can get advice on accommodation as well and they can help you find a suitable accommodation in Leeds or any city you want to shift to.

Universities usually contact letting agents and property dealers like Oasis Properties in Leeds and asks them to suggest places for it's students. Usually these places are more expensive and the best way to go about finding a suitable accommodation is by contacting the letting agents yourself. You can search online for Letting agents and agencies like Oasis Properties which have good user-friendly websites that guide you towards your accommodation. You can contact them even from your own home and they will be able to guide you free of cost. You should let them know about your requirements, like what sort of place you are looking for, your budget, dietary requirements, house sharing requirements etc. There are so many things to consider when you are moving alone to a new city as a student. You may want to be in a peaceful place or you may want to live among other students and socialize a lot
Depending upon your needs and requirement you will be shown houses and housing facilities. There will be a lot of students moving out of their houses around the time that you reach UK and an ideal time is August. This is the best time because the previous batches are graduating and slowly leaving the country and their accommodations. Another thing is that their annual contracts are ending so a lot of students move out and this is a good time to avail a suitable accommodation. Your right as a tenant in UK is that your landlord is responsible for maintenance of the facilities and structure of the house. If anything breaks down, or is not working he or she is fully responsible for providing you with maintenance. If the boiler breaks down, then the landlord has to immediately fix it. Obviously, in return you have to be a good tenant and make sure the house is kept clean and you maintain the house in the way it was given to you. You should also be paying the rent on time and not be a nuisance to your landlord.

Staying Safe in Student Accommodation Leeds

Shifting to a new city and new place can be scary at first, especially if it is your first time away from home. Many undergraduate students find it very difficult to live alone in a new city, that is why they want to live in a shared house. However, even in that lies a lot of problems, like what if you do not get good house mates or if your house is in an unsafe area. Leeds is pretty much a safe and secure city but as it is growing it is facing criminal activity as well like all other cities. However, there are many student areas that are very safe and finding a secure house for yourself will not be a problem.

You have to come at oasis properties to get the ideal student accommodation in Leeds and you will be ready to move in a few days. For students, it is often better to rent a place that is furnished so that you do not have the extra worry of paying for furniture or carpet etc. You will move into a house that is fully furnished with proper beds and lounge chairs. You should meet up with your house mates in advance so that you have an idea of how welcoming they are to you. You will also get a good idea about the area where you are buying or renting the house by visiting it in person, especially in the evening time. Those students who spend most of their time out of their room or house will need a safe place to stay as they can then store their laptop and other valuables without feeling unsafe in their house.
One of the best ways of staying safe in Leeds is to read forums and feedback of students who have lived in the student flats for rent. They will give you a good idea about the area you are contemplating on shifting to as the evenings are full of activity so you can get a better idea of the situation. When you are looking for a home, do ask the landlord for proper locks and security system with smoke and burglar alarms. The doors should all have an anti-snap door handles and locks to make your place extra secure. You should have double glazed windows to keep you warm and also because they are stronger and difficult to break.
You should avoid becoming a victim of crime, and make sure the street lights in your area are working fine. In case you feel that you are being followed or there is some drug dealing activity going on in your area, you should call the police so they can make surveillance of the area. This police surveillance puts fear into anyone who is thinking of committing crime and wards off their evil intentions. It also makes them aware that you do not take criminal activity lightly.
