Glasgow’s £60 Million Student Accommodation Scheme Gets the Green Signal

Planners have finally given the permission to the award-winning property builder and developer, Downing to build two 10-storey buildings on Beith Street along the bank of River Kelvin. Downing that owns the largest private commercial property in Liverpool will build these buildings to accommodate about 701 students of the Glasgow University. The two buildings will comprise of different type of student flats that are likely to be completed in September 2015 when the new academic year will begin at Glasgow University. The project is designed by famous architect firm, Falconer Chester Hall that has previously designed numerous high profile residential and accommodation facilities like Ibis Styles and Lyra Court.

As far as the cost of the luxury student accommodation is concerned, Downing will use a whopping £60 million budget to build the two 10-storey buildings. However, this is not the first time that Downing is going to build an accommodation for students, as the leading property developer of Liverpool has a wide experience in constructing large-scale student facilities. Given that the company has completed several similar projects in Leeds, London, Manchester, Cambridge and Newcastle. Now the construction firm has got the green signal to build the costly student facility in Glasgow, which according to the spokesperson of Downing, Paul Houghton is an exciting metropolis that has a high demand for student properties because the number of pupils is swiftly increasing in the city.

Houghton also said that their ambitious scheme will not only resolve the problem of student accommodation in Glasgow, but it will also revitalise the area as their scheme will offer the best in terms of both location and quality. He also added that this will enable the students to enjoy their time in university. Although, the site for two 10-storey buildings is already located in tremendous setting, as it is quite close to the River Kelvin that flows with the Forth and Clyde Canal. Still Downing is planning to surround the luxury student facility in Glasgow with a set of landscaped gardens. The £60 million scheme is a part of Glasgow harbour project that is a high quality and luxurious development scheme that will spread over an area of 130 acres.

Overall, Downing is currently busy in £200 million worth of different projects, which are taking place in different parts of the country.
